Pomegranates have Proven Anti aging Properties

Researchers at Swiss Federal Institute of Technology have found a precursor of an anti-aging compound Urolithin A in pomegranate. And they have successfully carried out clinical trials on a controlled group of individuals aged 50 or above.

The research and outstanding results of the clinical trials are published in a paper in the journal of Nature Metabolism by EPFL and the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics. Scientist found pomegranate, to be rich in precursor compounds of Urolithin A, the unchanging secret, some nuts, and berries also contain these metabolites too.

What is Urolithin A?

Urolithin A is a compound that can slow down the process of aging effectively by improving the functioning of mitochondria – the cells’ powerhouses. As we age our cells start to lose their ability to recycle defective mitochondria resulting in the loss of skeletal mass or sarcopenia and the weakening of other tissues. In younger individuals, the defective mitochondria are recycled naturally by the body.

UA is the only known compound that re-builds the cells’ natural capability to recycle faulty mitochondria.  The researchers focused on slowing or even reversing, this natural effect of aging in the body.

How does it work?

This proves you are actually what you eat, pomegranate is a mysterious fruit, it has several health benefits and has been a prized fruit in almost all the civilizations. Pomegranate is rich in a molecule ellagitannins when you consume pomegranate in any form, the ellagitannins convert into the anti-aging molecule urolithin A (UA) in the gut. But not everybody is able to produce UA naturally.

To overcome this problem scientist synthesized UA in the laboratory, and administered different quantities to the participant of the controlled group. The results were astounding  UA stimulates the production of mitochondrial mass within cells, exactly the way regular exercise does.

What to expect?

During the pre-clinical trials nematode worms that were exposed to UA were reported to live longer than regular nematode worms, also rats that were treated with UA for 20 to 30 days, showed better endurance while running.  Researchers are hopeful the product will soon be in the market, and it will prove to be a breakthrough in scientific research regarding aging.

Eat your pomegranates religiously and feel the process of aging, reverse from within.
