Mohmand Dam will be inaugurated today on 2nd May, 2019 by Prime Minister Imran Khan and former Chief Executive, Saqib Nisar in KPK. This groundbreaking ceremony will be held in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Before this its inauguration ceremony was going to be take place on 2nd January but it was postponed. But today this will be held at the dam location in Mohmand District.
Mohmand Dam Construction
The plan is to develop Mohmand Dam on the River Sawat by 2024 and it will cost around PKR 183 billion. The storage capacity of this Dam is 1.2 million acre-feet of water. Whereas, it will recover the current barren land in total, of around 17000 acres. Moreover, it will be having the capacity of generating 800MW.
Mohmand dam is going to resolve many issues regarding the flood and water shortage. It will reduce the water shortage as well as prevent flooding in Peshawar, Charsadda and Nowshera. This hydro power project inauguration will be happening today and Prime Minister Imran Khan will also visit the Tirha Valley of Khyber District.
Azhar Laghari, Central Head of Public relations who belonged to Tehreek-e-Insaaf tweeted on 30th April, 2019 about the groundbreaking ceremony of a hydropower project named “Mohmand” that it is going to be held on 2nd May, 2019.

The donation for Mohmand Dam started last year by former Chief Justice Saqib Nisar of Pakistan. He took this initiative and joined hands with the Prime Minister Imran Khan. The collection of donations was for the Diamer-Bhasha also. People from Pakistan and all around the world are still collecting funds for both dams.
The total amount of funds that has been raised in this perspective is PKR 10,402,081,797 according to SBP data. It is expected that the construction of this dam will be completed in five years and eight months. 800MW of hydel electricity that is going to be generated from this project may cover the scarcity of water in the future.
