Ghazwa-e-Hind in literal terms means a prophetic battle against non-believers of Hind, i.e., present-day India. Although Ghazwa in Islam denotes that battle in which the Holy Prophet (PBUH) himself took part, in this case, scholars of Islam explain the reasons for calling it a Ghazwa. It is so because it was prophesied by the Holy Prophet (PBUH) during his life that Muslims will fight non-Muslims in Hind and that Muslims will come out victorious in this battle whenever it takes place. It is for this very reason that whenever there is any tension on the borders or any conflict of interest between Pakistan & India, the probability of it happening seems more likely. Famous Ghazwa e hind hadith & Narrations are below.
Ghazwa e Hind
Many discuss the possibility of Ghazwa-e-Hind already having had taken place in the past when Mahmud Ghazni and the Mughals ruled supremely over subcontinent for centuries but present-day Ulema’s and religious scholars do not agree to that.
The argument put forward is that even though Muslims have conquered and ruled India in the past, the wars that were fought were not Ghazwa-e-Hind because Hazrat Issa (A.S.)’s revival is to follow this great battle which is yet to happen.
Ghazwa e Hind Hadith
Some of the Hadith regarding Ghazwa-e-Hind that are referred to are:
(Sunan Nasai, 28:3, 4382)
“fire of hell has been declared haram on two groups from my Ummah: one that would conquer Hind and the other that will be with Issa Ibn-e-Maryam (A.S.)”
(Abu Huraira RA)
“messenger of Allah (PBUH) promised us the conquest of Hind. If I could find a chance to participate in any such expedition, I will happily give my soul and wealth. If I get killed then I will be amongst the best of the martyrs, but if I return back alive then I would be a free Abu Huraira (RA), whom Allah would have freed from the fire of hell.” – Sunan Nasai
(Abu Huraira RA)
“messenger of Allah (PBUH) said that a group from you will conquer Hind. Allah will grant them success, so much that they will return by dragging their Kings in chains/fetters. And as a result, their sins will be forgiven by Allah(by the blessing of this great war). When they will return back, they will find Hazrat Issa Ibn-e-Maryam(A.S.) in Syria.” – Kitab Al Fitan
These references in the Hadith to the Ghazwa-e-Hind (Battle of India) shed light on some very important factors. Not only does it stamp the fact that this war is inevitable because it has been prophesied by the Holy Prophet (PBUH), it is also important because it is going to be the final crucial effort to create an Islamic caliphate resembling the social order that existed at the time of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the rightly guided Caliphs (632-661 AD).
Signs of Ghazwa e Hind
For Muslims across the world, and specifically Pakistan, it is Jihad that they would happily sacrifice their lives for. Not only do they get a chance to have the honor of a martyr but even if they come out alive, they would have redeemed themselves of all unholy acts that they might have committed throughout their lives.
Even Lashkar-e-Taiba’s founder, Hafiz Muhammad Saeed, who stands a terrorist for non-Muslims but a freedom fighter for Muslims, has repeatedly declared that Ghazwa-e-Hind will be the means through which the Indian held Kashmir will gain freedom.
In light of recent events where India revoked Article 370 of their constitution giving limited autonomy or special status to Kashmir, Hafiz Saeed’s remarks do not seem like a distant reality. Also, it has further aggravated the already surfacing probability of Ghazwa-e-Hind.
Though, on the other hand, the factor that rings alarm bells is that both neighboring countries are Nuclear Powers. South Asian region as a battleground has had a dark history and the future does not look very bright either. It is more so because Jihadists and Terrorist organizations have webbed themselves deep in this region and it is assumed that they use these prophecies to misguide young minds and eventually trick them into joining their terror networks.
A devoted place in paradise is every Muslim’s dream and terrorists use it to fulfill their nefarious designs. It is the duty of the state and Islamic leadership to ensure that this fine line between Jihad and Terrorism is never crossed.
Perpetual hostilities between India and Pakistan further prove the fact that Pakistan will have a leading role in Ghazwa-e-Hind. It is to be made clear that Islam as a religion only promotes and propagates peace but at the same time does not give any room to non-Muslims to try and overpower themselves.
Whenever there has been a battle or a war waged by Muslims, it has been only done so to safeguard religion, human rights, or threatened sovereignty.
Like in this case, the brutal mass killings of Kashmiri Muslims, snatching of their rights, constant violation of LoC, terror funding and shrouded support of liberation movements in Pakistan are only some of the factors that give enough reason for the Muslims of Pakistan to raise the banner of Ghazwa-e-Hind but it is not done so. It is simply because Islam as a religion of peace preaches tolerance. Also, as a responsible nuclear Muslim state, Pakistan wants only peace and stability for the region.
It is dearly hoped that India stops with its atrocities and does not lead the world towards a catastrophe.
But again, it remains to be seen as to when the patience of this brave nation, Pakistan, will run out. Only time will tell as to what the final nail in the coffin is going to be when the Muslims of Pakistan march for Ghazwa-e-Hind to defeat and capture the land of the infidels
