Ramazan is the most blessed time of the year, the rewards  for good deeds multiplies to infinity and the opportunity to make dua for forgiveness are plenty. One must learn some powerful duas for forgiveness of sins. There are many dua for forgiveness in Quran and Hadith. We should learn them to seek for forgiveness this Ramazan.

The Prophet (prayers and peace be upon him and his family) said, “Whoever fasts Ramadan, knows its limits, and guards what should be guarded in it, it will be an expiation for him of what came before.”

Allah the most merciful will erase all bad deeds of a believer when he makes sincere dua and tries to better himself. A person who prays and fasts in the month of Ramazan, with the intent of pleasing Allah alone, will become as if he was born today. Pure and clean from all sins.

Powerful Duas for Forgiveness in Ramazan

Making dua for forgiveness is the best remedy for getting away from sins. The Prophet ordered the believers to repeatedly seek forgiveness of Allah, as it will not only wash off our sins, but it also increases our ranks, in front of Allah, the Almighty.

The Prophet, peace and blessing be upon him said: “O people! Ask for the forgiveness of Allah and repent to Him as I ask for the forgiveness of Allah and repent to Him one hundred times a day.”

A small and easy to learn Astaghfar is:

أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللّهَ رَبِّي وَأَتُوبُ إلَيْهِ

Oh Allah! You are most forgiving, you love to forgive, so forgive me.

Duas for Forgiveness in the Quran

In the book of Allah many stories of the previous Prophets and nations are narrated, Allah has included their prayers and how Allah forgave them and elevated their status.

The Dua of Adam peace be upon him, when Allah sent him along with his wife down to the earth,

رَبَّنَا ظَلَمْنَا أَنفُسَنَا وَإِن لَّمْ تَغْفِرْ لَنَا وَتَرْحَمْنَا لَنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الْخَاسِرِينَ

Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we will surely be among the losers.” (Quran, 7:23)

There are many other duas in Quran with powerful words, we can learn and recite them sincerely for seeking forgiveness of Allah, during and after prayers, during Iftar and in the night prayers.

Another dua for forgiveness in the Quran is:

رَبَّنَا اغْفِرْ لَنَا ذُنُوبَنَا وَإِسْرَافَنَا فِي أَمْرِنَا وَثَبِّتْ أَقْدَامَنَا وَانصُرْنَا عَلَى الْقَوْمِ الْكَافِرِينَ

Our Lord! Forgive us our sins and the lack of moderation in our doings, and make firm our steps and succor us against those who deny the truth (Quran 3:147).

Another powerful dua for forgiveness that we can find in the Quran, is:

سُبْحَانَكَ تُبْتُ إِلَيْكَ وَأَنَا أَوَّلُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ

Exalted are You! I have repented to You, and I am the first of the believers. (Quran, 7:143)

Dua to Seek Forgiveness in the Sunnah

The prophet peace and blessings be upon him has taught the believers, some powerful duas for forgiveness.

Allahummagh firli thanbi kullahu diqqahu wa jillahu wa awwalahoo wa akhirahoo wa ‘ala niyyatahoo wa sirrahoo.

Oh Allah! Forgive me all my sins, great and small, the first and the last, those that are apparent and those that are hidden (Muslim).

The Prophet Mohammad (prayers and peace be upon him) also stated regarding the Layla-t-UL Qadar, which Allah has declared to be better than 1000 nights. It is one of the odd nights in the last Ashra of Ramazan: “Whoever stands [in worship] in the Night of Power out of faith and seeking reward, their previous sins shall be forgiven.

Mohammad peace and blessing be upon him, taught his beautiful duaa for forgiveness to his wife Ayesha RA to be recited in the last nights of Ramazan,

 اَللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفْوٌ تٌحِبٌّ العَفْوَ فَأَعْفَوْ عَنِّي

Oh Allah! You are most forgiving, you love to forgive, so forgive me.

There is another powerful dua for forgiveness taught by the prophet to his companion, Abu Bakar Sadeeq radi Allahu anhu,

“I asked Allah’s Apostle sal Allahu alayhi WA, Salem to teach me an invocation so that I may invoke Allah with it in my prayer. He told me to say,

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِي ظُلْمًًا كَثِيرًا وَ لَا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلَا أَنْتَ فَاغُفِرْ لِي مَغْفِرَةً مِنْ عِنْدِكَ وَارْحَمْنِي إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ الغَفُورُ الرَّحِيمُ

“O Allah, Indeed I have wronged myself excessively, and none can forgive sins except You, so forgive me out of Your forgiveness, and have mercy on me. Truly, You are the Oft- Forgiving, the Most Merciful.

Final words:

We should keep on making dua for forgiveness from Allah the Almighty. We should memorize duas for forgiveness in the Quran and Hadith, and recite them in a hope to seek His Mercy.

Make it a habit to recite Astaghfar and it will not only erase your sins, but will also help elevate your ranks in front of Allah.

Allah’s mercy and Rahma cover everything, He is more than pleased when a servant asks for forgiveness.

وَرَحْمَتِي وَسِعَتْ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ

And My Mercy embraces all things. (7:156)
